WASHINGTON - Landscape professionals performing tree care should be aware of a product recall for tree wound compound. According to an Associated Press release, The Tanglefoot Co., Grand Rapids, Mich., is recalling about 35,000 cans of Tanglefoot, Tree Wound & Grafting Compound because of a pressure problem that makes the chemical shoot out of the can. The compound can cause temporary skin irritation.
The Tanglefoot Co. has received 34 reports of containers discharging their contents, but no injuries have been reported, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.
The product, which is used to seal tree wounds, is sold in pint, quart, and gallon cans.
The recalled cans were filled from Nov. 11, 1996, through May 5, 1999. This date is stamped on the back of the can's label.
Hardware stores and nurseries nationwide sold the compound from November 1996 through August 1999 for $5 to $18, depending on the size of the can.
Consumers can return the product to the store where purchased for a replacement. For more information, consumers can call The Tanglefoot Co. at 800/215-0938 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST Monday through Friday or visit the company’s web site at www.tanglefoot.com.
