NEW YORK - Richton International Corp., parent company of irrigation component distributor Century Rain Aid, has made its first entry into the California irrigation market and expanded its reach in the Texas market with back-to-back acquisitions last week.

The company has entered into an agreement to acquire Bay Irrigation and Turf Supply Inc. for an undisclosed amount of cash, effective April 2, 2001. Bay Irrigation and Turf Supply has three locations in Northern California, located in Concord, Elk Grove and Rocklin, Calif. According to the company, California represents the largest irrigation market in the United States.

Additionally, Richton International is expanding its Texas holdings with the acquisition of six Texas branches of Simpson's Sprinkler Centers for an undisclosed amount of cash. The acquisition will increase Century's coverage of the Dallas/Fort Worth area to six branches with the addition of three Simpson's locations. The three other Simpson's centers - in Austin, San Antonio and Houston - will provide Century its first branches in those markets.

Adding the Simpson's centers brought the number of Richton branches to 157 in 35 states and Canada, but the Bay Irrigation acquisition quickly shot those numbers up to 160 branches and 36 states.

Richton is a diversified service company with three companies in two businesses - Century Supply Corp. (Century Rain Aid) a wholesale distributor of irrigation products and systems, and CBE Technologies (CBE) and Creative Business Concepts (CBC) both value added resellers of computer and systems integration products and providers of networking and consulting services.
