The San Fernando Valley Chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s top honors for the group’s 45th Annual Beautification Awards. The purpose of the competition is to recognize superior landscaping work among professionals in the industry.
The winning projects, shown at right, offered the most innovative ideas for landscaping, as well as the highest quality in both creativity and functionality. They were honored because of their proven excellence in landscape installation and maintenance. The highest honor, the Sweepstakes Award, went to Majestic Pools & Landscape of Northridge, Calif. Last year, Majestic won the custom residential award in the competition.
“As a company that has won various awards in the past, the Sweepstakes award is the one that justifies why we strive to improve and exceed the standards of the industry,” says Eric Watanabe, president of Majestic Pools & Landscape. “Winning the award was a team effort and the honor belongs to everyone who was involved.”
John Vorbek, president of John Vorbek Landscape Contracting, which took home the Bob Moore Memorial award, shared Watanabe’s sentiments of the exciting competition and the hard work that goes into each design and installation.
“Receiving this award is the ultimate achievement in my 24 years as a member of this great contractor’s association,” Vorbeck says. “Over the years, I have received several first place and outstanding acheivement awards, but this one is the most prestigious. The project was a fantastic experience. A great client, a creative architect, a gorgeous outcome and
recognition to boot – who could ask for anything more?”
The grand awards banquet honoring participants and award recipients was held on June 18th at the Knollwood Country Club in Granada Hills, Calif. Every year, members submit projects into this fierce competition and look forward to beating out the competition. These honors are highly regarded in the industry and winners appreciate the recognition from both the association and their clients.
“We are grateful to the homeowners who trust us to breathe life into a vision. To be recognized by our peers for creating something worthy of an award is an honor we are very proud to receive,” says Pam Melius of Southern California Landscape, recipient of the President’s Choice award.
In addition to Beautification Awards veterans, newcomers to the event noted their fulfillment in being recognized for their hard work. “To be honored in our first year of membership is truly remarkable,” says Steven Kinzler, president of Northridge, Calif.-based SK Landscape Design, which received the Excelsior Award. “Overall, we are grateful for the support and recognition we have received from the CLCA.”
Entrants into the Beautification Awards must be members of CLCA’s San Fernando Valley chapter to participate and contractors can submit entries at the beginning of May each year. Judging takes place over a three-day period in mid-May followed by an awards presentation in June. This year’s judges were Randy Haney, Ventura chapter President and president of Haney Lanscape; and Gary Vallen of Superior Sod and the CLCA State Associate Member Director. Competition winners receive plaques and significant recognition for their achievements.
