Cub Cadet Commercial Encourages Industry Peers to Support Green Care for Troops

Nearly 6,000 military families are in need of lawn care.

Cub Cadet Commercial announced today its 2008 sponsorship of Green Care for Troops, a national non-profit organization facilitated by Project Evergreen to provide free lawn care for military families with loved ones overseas. Cub Cadet Commercial is sole financial underwriter for Green Care for Troops administration and coordination, but additional resources are still greatly needed.

In its third year, Green Care for Troops has grown to almost 6,000 families nationwide, with just 1,300 volunteers to support their lawn care needs.

“Green Care for Troops provides a small, but valuable service for military families,” said Nick Cashier, vice president, Cub Cadet Commercial.  “For a professional landscaper or cutter, one lawn may take an hour or less every couple weeks, but for these families, it’s one less thing to worry about. This fourth of July, we hope the green industry can keep these families in mind and find a way to lend a hand.”

Cub Cadet Commercial is encouraging its green industry colleagues to help out in any way they can. Support can come in any form, including:

  • Adopt one or two families to maintain their lawns throughout the summe
  • Set up equipment loaner programs for citizen volunteers
  • Donate gas cards, money or transportation to help ease the burden of gas prices
  • Repair equipment for families that want to care for their own property, but don’t have a working mower
  • Raise awareness in your local community about how to get involved

“When you are worrying about the safety of a loved one there’s not much anyone can do to calm your fears,” Den Gardner, executive director, Project EverGreen said. “But green spaces have been proven to increase happiness and serenity so we want to do anything we can to help maximize those benefits to these families.”
