KENT, Ohio – The Davey Tree Expert Company is being honored by Business Ethics magazine for its success in employee-ownership as a member of the magazine’s "Employee Ownership 100."
The list, which will debut in the September/October issue, acknowledges and ranks the top 100 companies in the United States that are employee-owned. Davey Tree ranks 20th on the list, which is based on the number of employees at a company.
"Davey Tree owes a great deal of its success to its ownership arrangement," said David Adante, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Davey Tree. "It’s one of the largest and longest lasting employee-owned companies in the United States. As owners, the people who work at Davey feel responsibility for the company’s prosperity. We work harder because we have a vested interest. It’s wonderful to have that hard work recognized."
Davey Tree was purchased by its employees in 1979 after three generations of family ownership. Led by an acquisition committee, 113 employees participated in the buy-out. Today, 3,500 of the company’s 6,000 employees are owners.
The company provides tree, shrub and lawn care, grounds maintenance, vegetation management and consulting services throughout the United States and Canada.
