The recall - Deere’s second on the BP50 in as many months - involves all models and all serial numbers for the BP50 model, including UT08093, UT08104 and UT08125, and all models and all serial numbers for the BP40 model, including UT08055, UT08055-A and UT08094,

The company said a potential safety hazard of debris entering into the impeller fan area resulted in the recall of these units used by landscape contractors. Flying debris from the impeller fan could cause injury to the user or a bystander; therefore, John Deere is asking owners to not use their blowers until the problem can be corrected.

To prevent this problem John Deere dealers will install a fan cover to keep debris from entering the fan area. Covers will be available at John Deere dealers beginning Sept. 1, 2001. The covers will be installed free of charge.

Deere previously recalled its BP50 blowers in June due to inadequate wall thickness on the fuel tank (see Deere Recalls BP50 Blowers).

John Deere said the recall is being done in cooperation with and will be monitored by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
