In late December, Gov. Mark Schweiker lifted the drought emergency for the last three counties in Pennsylvania. With the improved conditions in Cumberland, Chester and Delaware counties, this marked the first time since Feb. 12, 2002, that none of the state's 67 counties were under mandatory water restrictions.
In addition, the governor upgraded 15 other counties to drought watch and normal status, bringing the total number of counties under this designation to 54. The remaining drought watch companies are: Beaver, Berks, Chester, Cumberland, Crawford, Delaware, Erie, Greene, Lancaster, Lawrence, Mercer, Washington and York.
