STAMFORD, Conn. – Eastern Land Management (ELM) announced recently that it has been named a 2005 Trailblazer by the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET). This year, ELM is one of only five landscape management companies to become part of the Trailblazers program, which was initiated in 2003.
The PLANET Trailblazers program recognizes an elite group of individuals who have made significant and long-term contributions to the green industry in four categories: design/build/installation, interior plantscaping, lawn care and maintenance. Nominees are annually selected for lifetime recognition. These individuals are identified as outstanding professionals who directly influence the state of the industry.

A Trailblazer’s commitment to give back to the green industry spans beyond past accomplishments. Each year, with coordination and support from PLANET staff, a Trailblazer sets aside one day to provide on-site mentoring to a PLANET member. This in-depth member-to-member networking and mentoring program is a unique way for both emerging and established companies to gain insight and advice on how to develop and grow their businesses.
“For many years, my interest has been to promote the professionalism of the industry and to educate newcomers,” ELM President Bruce Moore, Sr., tells Lawn & Landscape. “Entry into the industry is relatively easy and inexpensive, and many persons enter the industry not prepared to run a business with good business skills or understand the customer relations and image required to maintain a positive profile. I’ve been involved with the PLANET mentoring program on a limited basis for the past two years. I have worked with some of our local contractors on estimating and pricing and I enjoy the opportunity to do this. When I started my business nearly 30 years ago, it would have been good to have resources such as these available at that time.
“The ELM team is honored by this recognition and takes great pride in being a part of PLANET,” Moore adds. “Personally, to be nominated by my peers in the landscape industry is a very humbling experience and is one of the greatest distinctions I have achieved in the industry. It’s a very rewarding experience.”
