The Empire State Green Industry Show, in cooperation with Cornell University, is hosted by the New York State Nursery/Landscape Association (NYSN/LA), New York State Flower Industries (NYSFI), New York State Arborists - ISA Chapter, Inc. (NYSA), and New York State Turfgrass Association (NYSTA), and will be held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center on Nov. 13-15, 2007. According to Donna Moramarco, CNP, Vice President of the New York State Nursery/Landscape Association and Co-chair of the Education Committee, “This show is an excellent opportunity for nursery and landscape professionals to stay competitive in their field, increase prospective clients, further their professional development and stay knowledgeable of up-to-the-minute research and regulations that affect the green industry.”
Many dynamic speakers have been slated to give presentations at the Empire State Green Industry Show. The keynote presentation will be given by Commissioner Patrick Hooker with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, who will discuss his vision regarding issues facing the horticultural industry on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 4 to 5 p.m. On Thursday, Nov. 15 from 6:30 to 8 a.m., Edward L. Hanbach and Michael Nierenberg with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will participate in a regulatory panel discussion. Participants can enjoy breakfast while having their questions answered regarding neighbor notification laws and lawn care contract implementation.
The Empire State Green Industry Show offers one-stop-shopping with a trade show that features over 200 vendors. Green industry professionals can enjoy refreshments and network with their peers at the grand opening trade show reception on Tuesday, November 13 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., witness live demonstrations on the trade show floor, and shop for green industry products and services by visiting the exhibitor booths.
On Wednesday, November 14, the trade show will open at 8 a.m. and wrap up at 5 p.m. A “Proper Pond Installation Techniques Demonstration” will be given by Sensenig Landscaping on Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. Buy three, get one free trade show passes will be available. For those interested in increasing sales and their customer base, exhibitor booths are available. All exhibitors receive their name and booth location in an exhibitor directory which is provided for every attendee at the show and a list of all attendees including firm, name, and address for future reference.
The educational sessions offered at the Empire State Green Industry Show provide valuable, useable business information for all who attend. A variety of professional credits are offered including 42 CNLP credits and 42.25 DEC credits. Professional speakers including university professors, extension agents, Department of Environmental Conservation officials, and business owners come from all over the country to give presentations and research updates.
Key speakers include Paul Weston, Ph.D. and George Hudler, Ph.D., with Cornell University, who will present, “A Look at Insect and Disease Problems That Occurred in the 2007 Landscape.” They will review what can be done to manage the same problems in 2008. Bob Heffernan, executive director with the Connecticut Greenhouse Council will discuss, “Managing the Invasive Plants Battle.” Brad Roeller, instructor and manager of Display Gardens and Grounds at the Institute of Ecosystem Studies will present, “Establishing and Delivering an Organic Management Program.” Nina Bassuk, Ph.D., with Cornell University will present “Proper Plant Selection and Site Analysis.” She will also discuss soil, roots and water management below the soil line. Douglas P. Duval, the Northeast territory sales manager for Aquascape will discuss “Water Features in the Landscape.” Aquascape is a manufacturer of professional grade water garden products.
Additional scheduled events include the Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional exam which will be given on Monday, Nov. 12, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required by Friday, Sept. 28.
