Engine Co. Sponsors Lawn Makeover Contest

Briggs & Stratton will provide the winner with a $10,000 ‘lawn makeover’ and personal lawn care advice from the Yard Doctor.

As the snow melts and the sun brightens, homeowners struggle to get their unruly lawns in shape for the spring and summer months.

Offering peace of mind to one lucky homeowner, Briggs & Stratton is accepting nominations for the lawn most in need of a makeover through its Problem Lawn Makeover contest.

With help from the Yard Doctor, Trey Rogers, Ph.D., a turfgrass expert who is a consultant to the small engine manufacturer, Briggs & Stratton will transform the winner’s lawn into the envy of all passersby.

“Sometimes all a homeowner needs is a little guidance,” Rogers says. “The Problem Lawn Makeover contest gives a homeowner a makeover and some professional advice for maintaining the lawn for years to come.”

Entering the Problem Lawn Makeover contest is easy. Entrants should submit:

  • A creative essay (200 words or less) explaining: 1) how the lawn evolved into its current condition, and 2) how the homeowner plans to use the new lawn and maintain its condition
  • No more than three photos (no larger than 5x7) of the lawn
  • An entry form that can be found on www.yarddoctor.com.
  • The contest begins March 15, 2004, and all contest entries must be received by May 15, 2004. Entries should be mailed to: Problem Lawn Makeover Contest, P.O. Box 2221, Maple Plain, MN 55593-2221.

Entries will be judged on four main criteria: essay creativity/originality, the lawn’s existing condition, the lawn’s potential and the lawn’s future use/functionality. For the complete rules, consumers can visit www.yarddoctor.com.

One grand-prize winner will be awarded the lawn makeover valued at $10,000, as well as a Briggs & Stratton Touch-N-Mow equipped lawn mower. The second and third place winners will also receive a Touch-N-Mow equipped lawn mower. Rogers will be sent to the grand-prize winning lawn to consult with a local landscaping company to make over the lawn. Once the makeover is complete, Rogers will return to provide the homeowner professional advice for maintaining the lawn.
