Environmental Care Inc. Names New President

Environmental Industries Inc., a diversified landscape and horticultural services organization, has named Richard Sperber as president of its landscape maintenance division.

CALABASAS, Calif. – Environmental Industries Inc. (EII), a diversified landscape and horticultural services organization and parent company of landscape maintenance company Environmental Care Inc. (ECI), announced June 6 it has appointed EII Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Richard Sperber as president of ECI. Sperber also retains his responsibilities as president of EII’s Valley Crest division. For the ECI president position, Sperber replaces Bruce Wilson who will now assume a key leadership role with an e-commerce company in which EII has an equity interest.

EII is a full service landscape and horticultural services organization with principal business in landscape site engineering and pre-construction services, landscape maintenance, irrigation, arborist services, golf course landscape and nursery operations. EII’s divisions and subsidiaries include:

  • Environmental Care – a landscape maintenance, irrigation, water management, arborist and professional horticultural services provider. Sperber is now president of this division.
  • Valley Crest – a landscape and total site construction company, which is the oldest division of EII. Sperber remains president of this division.
  • Environmental Golf – a golf course building, maintenance and operating company.
  • U.S. Lawns – a franchise landscape maintenance company.
  • Valley Crest Tree Company – a grower of containerized specimen trees that also provides specimen tree preservation.

He has extensive management and operations experience within the EII organization. As president and chief operating officer of Valley Crest and Environmental Golf and leader of EII’s corporate task force for strategic implementation, Sperber helped EII grow and develop its organizational infrastructure and operations.

Sperber’s experience includes a degree from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, various positions in estimating and project management with each of EII’s divisions, setting up Valley Crest’s northern California office in 1982, becoming operations manager for EII’s Phoenix, Arizona, branch in 1984, and becoming manager of EII’s Las Vegas, Nevada, office in 1989. He was then named president of Valley Crest in 1994.

Formed in 1969, EII served the purpose of consolidating several operating units that had spawned from the original Valley Crest Landscape Nurseries in 1949. EII currently ranks among the top 40 private firms in Los Angeles and the top 80 contractors in the nation, according to Engineering News-Record, and is the only landscape company listed within the publication’s Top 400 contractors. The company employs 5,700 employees in the U.S. and has regional offices in 15 states and Washington D.C.
