CALABASAS, Calif. - With its second acquisition in a strategic growth market this year, Environmental Industries Inc. (EII) announced Tues., Dec. 5, 2000, that the company has acquired North Haven Gardens Inc. (NHG), a $17 million full service landscape company headquartered in Dallas, Texas. The merger follows the February 2000 EII acquisition of STM Landscape Services Inc., of Oakton, Va., which increased the company’s presence in the Mid-Atlantic region.
NHG has been owned by Pinkus Family Holdings since 1951. It will now will operate under the leadership of EII’s landscape and maintenance divisions and will retain the NHG name and operate in its current site. Lillian Pinkus (pictured above, middle, with Richard Sperber of Environmental Industries, left, and NHG’s Jon Pinkus, right) remains as president of the company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded by Ralph and Muriel Pinkus, NHG began as a residential landscape services company. In addition to NHG, Pinkus Family Holdings also includes full service garden centers in Dallas - Nortex Wholesale Nurseries Inc. (dba North Haven Gardens Retail Center) and Tawakoni Plant Farm. These nursery businesses are not part of the transaction and will remain with Pinkus Family Holdings. The garden and retail center will continue to be owned and operated by Jon Pinkus, and Tawakoni Plant Farm will continue to be run by Ralph and David Pinkus.
“The blending of these two great family-owned companies will define and lead the landscape services market in Dallas from construction to exterior maintenance and interiorscape,” said Richard Sperber, EII’s senior vice president and chief operating officer.
The two companies will combine EII’s national infrastructure with NHG’s network of horticultural services. “With this acquisition, we can provide superb competitive advantages to a larger segment of the Dallas business community and dramatically expand our reach throughout the state of Texas,” continued Sperber. “Joining forces with New Haven Gardens will reinforce the reputation of both companies as premier landscape maintenance and horticultural services providers and allow us both to support continual and unlimited growth.”
Lillian Pinkus said, “This union creates considerable opportunities for both EII and North Haven Gardens to provide the best landscape services and solutions to businesses, contractors and developers. With EII’s considerable resources and purchasing power behind us, North Haven Gardens becomes a locally-oriented provider of national influence.”
According to EII, the company is the largest privately held landscape organization in the United States. With the acquisition of North Haven Gardens, EII annual revenues will be in excess of a half-billion dollars a year. Company headquarters are in Calabasas, Calif.
