NEW PRAGUE, Minn. – The Evergreen Foundation (EF) has announced the extension of the deadline for its first fund-raising effort and promotion from May 31 to June 23. The prize giveaway for the promotion is a weekend trip for two to the John Deere Classic Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) golf tournament.
Contributors who join the EF, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and funding the creation of a national greenway system, through June 23 will be eligible to win the all expenses paid weekend to the tournament in Moline, Ill., in late July. All members of the green industry are invited to support the work of the EF through this promotion.
To become eligible for the golf tournament drawing, new contributors must join at the $100 Green Backer level. Application forms are available on the EF’s web site at www.evergreenfoundation.com.
"We want to give as many people as possible a chance to join our efforts through this popular golf fund-raiser, and that is why we have extended the deadline," said Den Gardner, development director for the EF. "Since the Foundation is non-profit, contributions are also tax deductible."
By carefully selecting greenway projects around the country to fund with cash support and gift-in-kind contributions of work, machinery or materials the EF hopes to foster a greater appreciation for green spaces in cities and towns. Contributors can join the EF at one of three levels:
- Green Backers are those who wish to encourage the work of the EF through a contribution of $100. Only Green Backers have full eligibility for foundation promotions.
- Green Supporters are input suppliers/vendors providing monetary or in-kind support. This can include labor/time, supplies, products, etc., from green industry companies, non-profit associations and others.
- Green Promoters are media and other companies offering in-kind communications services.
Individuals who become Green Backers will receive updates about the work of the EF and special privileges at the November 2000 Green Industry Expo in Indianapolis.
"It’s so important that people in the green industry support the work of the Evergreen Foundation now," says Dale Amstutz, president of the EF. "We didn't put our fund-raising promotion into place until the end of February. We felt we wanted to provide an extra few weeks for prospective donors to join our efforts to support greenways and possibly win a trip to the golf tournament."
A drawing from all new Green Backer contributors to select the winner of the weekend for two at the John Deere Classic will take place after the June 23 deadline.
The winner’s package includes hotel, meals, tournament transportation and VIP Treatment as guests of John Deere. This is the first John Deere Classic to be played at the new Deere Run Tournament Players Championship (TPC) course. John Deere is donating the golf trip. Transportation for the trip is being provided by Novartis Turf and Ornamental Products.
