The Evergreen FoundationNEW ORLEANS – The non-profit greenways group the Evergreen Foundation (EF) has launched a membership drive to encourage people in the green industry to support their work. As part of this membership drive, new members will be entered in a drawing to win a weekend for two at the John Deere Classic PGA golf tournament in Moline, Ill.

The EF carefully selects greenway projects around the country to receive cash support and gift-in-kind contributions of work, machinery or materials. One of these projects is the funding of the development of a Greenways Archive at North Carolina State University to bring resources together in one place and to develop a map of existing and proposed greenways to guide the EF in its selection of projects. The EF has also funded a greenway group to assist in the restoration of Mill Creek in Cincinnati, Ohio. Click here for more details on the Mill Creek Restoration Project.

Referring to the selection of greenway projects, Den Gardner, development director for the EF, said, "This provides an opportunity for people in the green industry to work closely with environmental advocates to demonstrate that we’re all concerned about the quality of life in America and are eager to do many things to improve it."

"The Evergreen Foundation is a non-profit organization, so the membership fee is tax deductible as a charitable contribution," continued Gardner. "The money we raise will be used to help create a national greenway system, and by doing so, foster a greater appreciation for green spaces."

There are three levels of membership to join the EF. To be eligible for the prize drawing, individuals must join by May 31, 2000. This membership contribution to become a Green Backer is $100 per person, and only Green Backers have full eligibility for foundation promotions, including special privileges at the November 2000 Green Industry Expo in Indianapolis. A Green Supporter of the EF is an input supplier/vendor providing monetary or in-kind support, including labor/time, supplies and products. Green Promoters consist of media and other companies offering in-kind communication services. Individuals may join online at www.evergreenfoundation.com/efjoin.asp.

The John Deere Classic will be held in late July. The prize package includes hotel, meals, tournament transportation and VIP treatment as guests of John Deere. The golf trip is donated by John Deere, while transportation for the trip is provided by Novartis Turf and Ornamental Products.
