Chad Layman, owner of Fine Earth in Harrisonburg, Va., was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2008 at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce's 92nd Annual Banquet. The banquet is an opportunity to recognize outstanding individuals, business owners and organizations in the community.
Layman, a native of Harrisonburg, Va., started Fine Earth in October 1995. The company specializes in landscape and hardscape design and installation as well as landscape management. Layman started the company with a staff of two and little equipment. Today, it has more than 20 employees and annual sales of over $2.5 million.
Layman is a member of various organizations including the Shenandoah Valley Builders Association, Rotary Club and the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the board for the Spotswood Country Club and the Shenandoah Valley Builders Association.
