SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved Wellmark International’s Extinguish Plus for combating imported red fire ants. The latest product from Wellmark combines the killing speed of an adulticide with the long-lasting control of an insect growth regulator (IGR) and provides a unique tool to minimize the negative economic and environmental impact of imported red fire ant infestations.
Extinguish Plus offers a two-pronged attack through its combination of Hydramethylnon and S-Methoprene. Hydramethylnon is an insecticide with a proven track record for fire ant control. Methoprene is a proven insect growth regulator that has provided effective, long-term pest control not only for fire ants but many other pests.
“Speed is essential in combating fire ants which is why we developed Extinguish Plus to be a fast-acting product with results starting to show in as little as seven to ten days,” said Scott Boutilier, business manager, Wellmark International. “With its fast action and easy application, Extinguish Plus is a perfect complement to our existing lineup of insect control products for applications that need its long-lasting benefits.”
