AKRON, Ohio – FirstEnergy, on behalf of its seven electric utility operating companies, has been named a Tree Line USA utility by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters. It is the seventh year in a row that FirstEnergy has received this award for excellence in vegetation management practices.
“We are pleased that our efforts to strike the right balance between ensuring reliable electric service and maintaining the beauty of our natural surroundings have been acknowledged," said FirstEnergy Senior Vice President of Energy Delivery and Customer Service, Charles Jones. "Our tree-care program combines the best practices of arborists and foresters to keep vegetation away from power lines and other electric equipment. However, the best approach is to plant only lower-growing trees and shrubs near our lines."
