Florida Lawn Care Operator Shot on the Job

Two men shot a man in Orange County because they wanted his money.

An Orange County, Fla., lawn care worker was shot while on the job. Investigators said the victim was shot on by two men who wanted his money.

The worker is going to be okay and he was recovering at a hospital Wednesday. Other workers told Eyewitness News the victim was bending down pulling up weeds when two men stuck a gun in his face.

Employees of Lawnwalker Services sat on the side of the road in disbelief after one of their co-worker was shot in the shoulder. The service is contracted through the county and is responsible for mowing the common areas in the community.

The lawn care workers did not want to talk on camera in fear of retaliation, but said they work in pairs for protection. However, one man was mowing the lawn and another man was weeding when two black men with a gun came up and demanded money.

"I happen to be the first one of the scene and I know language was a problem. [The victim] did not speak. Whether the suspects were frustrated, I don't know," explained Antorrio Wright, Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Workers said the robbers were frustrated, because the man who was being held up didn't understand their demands, so they shot.

Investigators searched on foot and from the air, but they could not find the robbers. Deputies aren't sure if the robbers even got any money, because there was a language barrier. The two robbers were last scene running southbound.
