FMC Receives Federal Approval for Stingray

New herbicide for aquatic weeds is classified as a reduced risk pesticide.

Fla

FMC Corp., Philadelphia, Pa., announced at the Green Industry Expo in Charlotte, N.C., that its new herbicide StingrayTM received Federal Registration for use on aquatic sites.

Classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a reduced risk pesticide, Stingray will provide control of floating and emerged aquatic weeds, such as water lettuce, water hyacinth, watermeal and the invasive plant Salvinia molesta, according to FMC.

“FMC is extremely pleased to have received a Federal Registration for use of Stingray on aquatic sites,” said Don Claus, director of the Specialty Products Business for FMC. “The plan is to launch Stingray in the Florida market first and then introduce it in other key regions including the Great Lakes area.”

The active ingredient in Stingray is carfentrazone, the same one used in FMC’s QuickSilverTM turf and ornamental herbicide.
