AUSTIN, Texas – Although it shouldn't impact the commercial side of green industry e-commerce, consumer online retailer of gardening products Garden.com Inc. announced Nov. 15, 2000, that it will shut down its retail operations and plans to sell its consumer business assets after failing to secure additional financing to fund operations.
The Austin, Texas-based company, the latest victim in the shakeout in the online retail sector, said it plans a "phased layoff" of its consumer business employees. The company cut 30 percent of its work force, or about 93 jobs, in late September.
