Gardeners’ Guild, San Rafael, Calif., was awarded the 2003 Golden Spire Outstanding Business of the Year award.
The award is givdn by the Marin County (Calif.) Board of Supervisors and “recognizes a business in Marin that makes a significant economic contribution to the county’s economic vitality and is exemplary in demonstrating corporate responsibility in terms of environmental sensitivity, a progressive work environment and generosity in giving back to the community.”
Among past award recipients have been Lucas Films, Fireman’s Fund and Autodesk.
Gardeners’ Guild credits its achievement to clients and community members. “We want to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you,’ to our customers and the community for your loyalty and support in making our business successful,” commented President John Ossa.
The company, which became officially 100-percent employee-owned in July 2003, prides itself on living up to its mission statement. The mission statement reads, “We are a team of employee owners who take pride in creating and enhancing landscape environments for the benefit and enjoyment of our customers and the community.” Ossa adds, “Our commitment to our mission is validated by this award and by the loyalty of our many long-term customers.”
