GCSAA to Accept Tsunami Relief Donations

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America will match contributions and forward them to the overarching U.S. Golf Tsunami Relief Fund.

In addition to offering a donation to victims of last summer’s Florida hurricanes, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) has announced that it is organizing a relief fund for the victims of the tsunami that ravaged Southeast Asia last month.

The association will present a donation check to Florida officials while in Orlando for the GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry Show (GIS) Feb. 10 through 12. Additionally, show and conference attendees will be able to make donations for the tsunami relief fund at the GIS registration center during the week of the event.

GCSAA will match contributions made during the week and will forward the funds to the U.S. Golf Tsunami Relief Fund. The Fund is a collaborative effort of the major golf associations, including the U.S. Golf Association (USGA), The Professional Golf Association of America, The Ladies Golf Association and more.

“The tragic events of Dec. 26th are not easily overlooked by any who have seen the images and heard the stories from Southeast Asia,” said USGA President Fred Ridley in a press release. “We have been saddened by the tragic loss of life and horrendous destruction, and are compelled to reach out, together with our members and volunteers, as part of the global effort to support the families of the victims of this tragedy and those who survived.”
