TAMPA, Fla. - The first-ever winners of the Pendulum Awards for lawn care professionals were announced Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Professional Lawn Care Association of America's (PLCAA) annual meeting dinner, held at the Green Industry Expo in Tampa, Fla., Nov. 9 - 13, 2001. The Pendulum Awards, cosponsored by PLCAA, Lawn & Landscape magazine and BASF Corporation, are designed to identify and recognize innovative and successful business-growing ideas among lawn care professionals nationwide.
"We are very pleased with the enthusiasm this program is generating within the industry," said William Strickland, marketing manager for the BASF Turf and Ornamental Group and presenter of the awards. "The entries included numerous clever and effective approaches to growing a lawn care business. It's a privilege to commend these winners for their ingenuity and for and sharing their ideas with the entire professional lawn care community."

The winners were selected by an panel of three judges that included Tom Delaney, PLCAA Executive Vice President; Nicole Wisniewski, Managing Editor of Lawn & Landscape and Phil Fogarty of Weed Man.
The awards were given to three winners in each of three categories: Marketing of Services, Employee Retention/Recruitment and Customer Relations. Each of the nine winners received an engraved plaque bearing the image of a forward-swinging pendulum symbolizing their forward-thinking concepts. Winners also received customized materials to help them publicize their achievement locally.
