Adam Gorski is bringing his unique vision of landscape architecture to the Northwest Flower and Garden Show at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Wash., Feb. 18-22.
Gorski has worked as a landscape architect in the area for six years, after getting a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Cornell University. He has landscaped about 40 homes in Snoqualmie Ridge.
“I moved here in 1999, and within a couple of months, I visited the flower and garden show and told myself that I had to be a part of that,” Gorski said. “It became a goal of mine as soon as I moved here.”
Gorski described his approach to landscaping as finding one unique element of a garden and working to make it more interesting. He said that he was particularly proud of a water feature on the Snoqualmie Ridge golf course he built for a home in the Eagle’s Nest development. The feature required moving large rocks into the sight before the home was built.
Last year was Gorski’s first time to have an exhibit at the flower and garden show. He was able to obtain about 400 used skis from Pro Ski in North Bend for use in his exhibit. He broke the skis in two and built a picket fence with some of the skis. He also constructed a bench made out of skis.
This year’s exhibit will be centered on his mother-in-law’s 1967 Mustang. Gorski is drawing on the car’s colors – bright red and chrome – to build his exhibit. He said that the car was bought new in 1967 and has been driven nearly every day.
The exhibit will feature the Mustang sitting on a red brick driveway with antiques from the time period, surrounded by red and silver plants.
Gorski moved to the area from Rochester, N.Y., to take advantage of the longer growing season and to start his own landscaping business. He lives fulltime on Snoqualmie Ridge and has worked on a number of projects in the Valley and along the Interstate 90 corridor.
This is the last year for the Flower and Garden Show. Gorski said that he is glad to have gotten the opportunity to participate in the show during the last two years.
