While most lawn and landscape contractors have experienced the difficulty in finding good employees, the problem may stem from not looking in the right places.
Recent findings indicate that a significant number of job seekers are using online means to find their next employer, a fact that contractors may want to exploit in filling future position vacancies.
As many as 25.5 million people have used the Internet to search for jobs, according to U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics 2003 data, the most recent available figures. Nearly 93 percent of those jobseekers utilized the Internet to read online ads or job listings, and 70 percent used it to research potential employers, according to the bureau’s figures. Likewise, 57 percent posted a resume on a job listing site and 41 percent submitted their work history for a job search service, according to the data.
Men and women were nearly equal in their use of the Internet so search for jobs. Also, those job seekers with more schooling were much more likely than those with less education to use the Web for employment searches, according to the bureau’s data.
