Each year the GreatPlants program highlights new or overlooked trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials and ornamental grasses that show superior qualities for Nebraska landscapes.
This year's picks:
The Tree of the Year: Corneliancherry dogwood (Cornus mas);
Conifer of the Year: Serbian spruce (Picea omorika);
Shrub of the Year: Creeping mahonia or creeping barberry (Mahonia repens);
Perennial of the Year: Arkansas bluestar (Amsonia hubrichtii); and
Grass of the Year: Shenandoah switchgrass (Panicum ‘Shenandoah’).
