PLCAA and GIE Announce Keynote Speakers; Product Field Day Hours Extended

The annual Green Industry Expo (GIE) trade show may be several months away, but industry associations are already gearing up for the event, which occurs this November in Nashville, Tenn.

THE KICKOFF. The Professional Lawn Care Association of America (PLCAA), one of the show’s three sponsors, named two-time Pro Bowl football player Joe Thiesmann as the event’s keynote speaker. Theismann will share his experiences with teamwork and motivation in his “Managing to Win” presentation, which he will deliver during PLCAA’s Grand Opening Session on Nov. 14, 2002, at 8:30 a.m.

Theismann spent 12 years with the NFL as the quarterback for the Washington Redskins, leaving the team after severely injuring his leg in 1985. Prior to his NFL career, Theismann attended two Cotton Bowls with the University of Notre Dame.

Today, Theismann is an ESPN football analyst and author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Understanding Football Like a Pro.

VAULTING FORWARD. In addition, gold-medal gymnast Peter Vidmar will share his own tips for success during the GIE Keynote Address on Nov. 15, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. Vidmar plans to revisit his Olympic experiences and focus on reaching difficult goals during his “Risk, Originality and Virtuosity” presentation.

Vidmar earned gold medals in the 1984 Olympics as part of the men’s team and in the pommel horse competition, as well as a silver medal in the individual all-around event, making him the highest scoring U.S. gymnast in Olympic history.

MORE TIME IN THE FIELD. Finally, the GIE Board announced it will extend the hours for the popular Product Field Day event. Based on feedback from exhibitors and attendees, Product Field Day fans will now have more time to spend browsing – and trying out – equipment and services at the show. This year’s Product Field Day will be Nov. 14, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Last year’s event ran from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Green Industry Expo (GIE) is a trade show held in conjunction with conferences sponsored by the Associated Landscape Contractors of America, PLCAA and the Professional Grounds Management Society. This year’s show is Nov. 14-16, 2002, at the Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. For more information about this year’s GIE, call 888/303-3685 or visit http://www.gieonline.com.
