NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. - Subject to countless hours of back-straining work, lawn and landscape contractors may be interested in a new product designed to reduce lower back strain when shoveling and raking.
Manufactured by Trentco Innoventions, Pro Handle is an auxiliary handle that attaches to any “stick-tool” such as a snow shovel, rake or edging tool. According to Trentco Innoventions, the design helps to relieve lower back strain by encouraging one to work with a more erect, less stressful posture.
The lightweight handle offers five custom angles to choose from, including one that folds out of the way for storage, according to Frank Saladino, who designed the handle after suffering back pain while shoveling snow.
“A simple chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and if humans were such a chain, our weakest link would be the lower back,” said Saladino, CEO of Trentco Innoventions.
No tools are required to attach the device. Thumbscrews compress non-slip rubber inserts tightly around the shaft of the stick-tool. The unit remains in place even during rigorous work such as gardening, digging or scraping, said Saladino.
Saladino recommends Pro Handle for use on shovels, rakes, brooms and landscaping equipment.
