The Heil Environmental Truck Equipment Group has been named Industry of the Year for 2005 by the Tishomingo County Development Foundation in Tishomingo, Miss. Heil produces a full line of dump bodies, snow/ice control bodies, hoists and other truck equipment at its manufacturing facility in Tishomingo.

The award was presented at the foundation’s annual awards banquet in November. At the ceremony, Gary Matthews, foundation executive director, praised Heil’s commitment to its employees and the company’s continuous improvement efforts. Heil “has been a long-time employer in the county that is famous for treating its employees very well,” he said.

Matthews explained that Heil was unanimously selected for the award by the foundation’s board of trustees after board members evaluated the merits of all 35 manufacturers in the county. The board considered company accomplishments in 2005, reputation and history.

Heil sent 15 team members to the awards presentation, including Michael Johnson, general manager.

“Our team focuses every day on constantly improving our business to better serve our customers, our workers and our community,” Johnson said. “It is extremely gratifying to have our efforts recognized, and we’re honored to have received this award.”

Johnson tells Lawn & Landscape that it was the company’s continuous improvement in the areas of employee involvement, community involvement and customer service that helped the plant earn this year’s award. “We’re not the biggest employer in the area, but we’re among them, and that makes it important for us to maintain a presence in the community and give back by participating in local events, serving on committees, and in other ways,” he says.

Johnson says Heil’s New Year’s resolution is to continue to be the best in the business and build even greater employee and community relationships.
