Running a small business is full of day-to-day challenges that can discourage some business owners. Effectively handling all aspects of the business as well as providing quality services can be a daunting task - unless you have the right tools.

This is where Symbiot Businees Group, Sandy, Utah, comes in. The company was started in November 2000 by Steve Glover, past ALCA president and former owner of L&L Landscape Services, Sunnyvale, Calif., to develop products to help streamline small business operations in the service industry.

"I believe that there are opportunities for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses if they have the right tools," related President and CEO Steve Glover. "Our products are inexpensive and are effective in facilitating the growth of small businesses."

Glover explained that the company spent most of 2001 developing its four products and that 2002 will be "the year of the sale.

"Our goal this year is to penetrate the landscape maintenance market," Glover continued. "We're working with Associated Landscape Contractors of America and Snow and Ice Management Association and are looking to align ourselves with other associations to expose our products to their members."

Each of the products is intended to help streamline a specific portion of a business and are all accessed through the Internet. The four products are:

While Glover asserted that contractors are generally impressed with these products, Symbiot does run into challenges because the programs are completely Internet based.

"I don't think contractors are using the Internet to their full capacity, so we do have an educational challenge sometimes," he advised. "But after we expose them to our products, we don't have any problem at all selling them."

After penetrating the landscape maintenance market, Glover plans to expand into other service industries. Currently his company has 10 employees but plans to grow that number as the company establishes relationships and has the need to expand its customer service and sales staff.
