“The HMI Horticultural Assessment that we are providing to the green industry relies on current pricing from leading wholesale nurseries with solid reputations for product consistency and quality,” said Margie Boccieri, HMI’s vice president of corporate development. “All of these nurseries certainly meet those requirements and we are proud to have them in our growing Premier Nursery Network.”
Utilizing the company’s patent-protected Horticultural Scientific Standard (HS2™), the HMI Horticultural Assessment provides the current through 10-year replacement cost values for all of the woody trees and shrubs on a property. Using this information, the green industry has – for the first time in its history – an objective method to describe the growing value of landscape assets to consumers.
Developed by HMI with the assistance of Dr. Michael Dirr, a leading U.S. horticulturist, HS2 is a process that incorporates individual plant genetics, regional climatic information, and local growing conditions to establish growth rates, and average wholesale pricing to establish the valuations for thousands of woody trees and shrubs. Based on the 10-year growth rate, HS2 assigns current through 10-year valuations for the trees and shrubs. Members of HMI’s Premier Nursery Network support HMI by providing updated wholesale pricing on some or all of the plants they sell. They also work together with HMI on trends in the industry and on exploring market factors that may impact wholesale pricing, such as new plant introductions.
“HMI Premier Nursery Network members will be acknowledged on HMI’s Web site, www.moneygrowsontrees.com, as one of its elite member nurseries chosen for its market position and consistently reliable production,” Boccieri noted.
In addition, the select nurseries will have unrestricted access and preferred rights to contribute content to a new Noble Plants Web site that Dr. Dirr is launching with HMI this summer. The new Noble Plants Web site will offer the industry extensive content on woody plants and unbiased opinions of what’s new, good, bad and exciting in the industry. The Web site promises to be a valuable portal of information for nurseries, contractors and consumers alike.
Dirr is serving as an advisor and consultant to HMI and has licensed his extensive plant databases to the company.
