An entire Orange County, Fla., neighborhood is now being forced to pay for lawn care. The homeowners association in the Independence neighborhood in Winter Garden has decided to hire a lawn service for every homeowner.
It made the move because so many yards had grown out of control at foreclosed homes. The cost to each resident is $55 a month added to their $170 HOA fee.
Some homeowners said they understand the new measure, but others said they don't need it.
"I was ballistic. It's not fair. It's not fair to penalize those who are doing right by the system," resident Lauri Christner said.
Residents said they didn't get to weigh in on the decision because the developer, Engle Homes, still has control over the HOA in the fairly new community.
