HRI Leadership Academy opens applications for Class of 2027

The deadline to apply is Feb. 6, 2026, and class selections will be announced in May 2026.

The Horticultural Research Institute (HRI), the AmericanHort foundation, is now accepting applications for the HRI Leadership Academy Class of 2027. This immersive one-year program equips green industry professionals with the leadership insight, strategic skills and industry perspective needed to guide their organizations, and the broader horticulture industry.

“As we enter the fifth year of the HRI Leadership Academy, we continue to see how powerfully this program shapes the next generation of green industry leaders,” says Jonathan Berry, HRI Board President. “We remain committed to empowering passionate, dedicated professionals who want to make a meaningful and lasting impact on horticulture’s future.”

The HRI Leadership Academy provides participants with a comprehensive leadership development experience through a blend of in-person training, online coursework and peer-to-peer engagement. The curriculum is designed to strengthen leadership capabilities, deepen their industry horticultural industry knowledge and foster lasting peer connections.

Application Timeline:

• Application Window: Open now through Feb. 6, 2026

• Interviews: March – April 2026

• Class Selection and Notification: May 2026

• Formal Class Announcement: Cultivate’26, July 11–14, 2026, Columbus, Ohio

AmericanHort covers the program tuition, and there is no fee to apply. Applications are submitted through the HRI Leadership Academy website. All applicants will be considered, with selections based on leadership potential, demonstrated commitment to the industry, and the ability to positively contribute to the industry.
