The Horticultural Research Institute and its Endowment Fund, the research division of the American Nursery & Landscape Association announced it received a donation from Syngenta in Greensboro, N.C., to move the Syngenta Professional Products Fund from the $25,000 Silver Circle to the $50,000 Gold Circle. Chuck Buffington, lawn and garden business strategy manager of Syngenta announced the commitment during the HRI reception held in Vail, Colo. this summer.

Founded in 1962, HRI has directed more than $4.2 million of industry funds to some 600 research projects covering the full range of production, environmental and business issues important to the trade. HRI distributed $335,000 in grants and scholarships for 2006. The HRI Endowment Fund is the primary source of project funding. Created in 1975 as HRI’s philanthropic arm, the Endowment Fund now stands over $8.5 million committed by nearly 160 individuals, associations and corporations. The Endowment Fund’s principal remains invested and untouched; only investment earnings fund HRI grants.
