As the green industry’s Spanish-speaking workforce continues to increase, Hunter Industries has taken a big step toward breaking down the English/Spanish language barrier by debuting its new Spanish-language Web site, www.hunterriego.com. The new online offering features all the same content of the company's English-language site, making it easier for the Spanish-speaking audience to access the growing amount of information being made available to customers.
“The workforce is comprised of a lot of Spanish-speaking workers and business owners, so much of the material we provide on main Hunter Web site has been translated to help those contractors and their crews,” says Fred Hernandez, public relations manager for Hunter, San Marcos, Calif. “Our research shows that items like operators manuals and applications guides are some of our most downloaded files, and we wanted to make an effort to translate those documents into Spanish. Ultimately, that was a big factor in deciding to do an entire Spanish-language site.”
Hernandez adds that international sales to countries such as Spain also played into the development of a Spanish site. Hunter operates other foreign-language sites, as well, for European customers.
Hunter’s Spanish Web site is part of an ongoing restructuring and redesigning of the company’s online content. As is the case with the English-language site, there are new features that make finding information a more effortless task. Most notably, site content has been customized to address the particular needs of installers, homeowners and designers simply by choosing the appropriate category on the homepage.

Each section provides links to individual Hunter products, frequently asked questions and technical information, while catering to particular audiences. The Installers area, for example, includes technical bulletins and an irrigation business library, while the Designers section offers examples of typical plans and a precipitation calculator. Homeowners can find information on how to adjust their irrigation programs and more.
In addition, it is now possible to “search” from any page on the site. Navigation within the site also has been updated to include menus on each page so the user is never more than a click away from the key categories of the site.
Currently, Hunter’s Spanish-language site features areas for installers and homeowners. Fernandez says that as information is posted to the main Hunter Web site, it will be translated and featured on the Spanish site, as well. “We’ll have a dual audience for the site, so we’re going to try and duplicate as much of the content on the main site as possible,” he says. “We always strive to be a resource for the end-user and as news and product information is posted to each site, we encourage our dealers and contractors to distribute that information to their crews and customers.”
