Harold “Hap” Huffman uses a Husqvarna chain saw to fell the 2002 Capitol Holiday Tree in Umpqua National Forest, Ore., on Nov. 7. Husqvarna provided its 385XPW and 372XPW model chain saws for the tree-cutting ceremony as well as all of Huffman’s safety gear.

The nation’s official holiday tree is en route to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. – thanks in part to the efforts of Husqvarna. The North Carolina-based manufacturing company donated the chain saws used to fell the tree in the Umpqua National Forest near Roseburg, Ore., on Nov. 7.

This year’s tree – a 70-foot Douglas fir – will adorn Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., for the holiday season. The “wolf tree,” chosen for its perfect shape, uniform branching and full-bodied green foliage, is being transported via truck for an official lighting ceremony on Dec. 12.

Husqvarna provided its 385XPW and 372XPW model chain saws for the tree cutting ceremony as well as head-to-toe safety gear for the professional who performed the tree felling. The custom of placing a holiday tree on the front lawn of the Capitol dates back to 1964. Since 1970, the tree has come from a national forest, and this is the first tree from Oregon to be chosen.

This is the third consecutive year in which Husqvarna is an official sponsor of the Capitol Holiday Tree. The company, which offers forest, lawn and garden power equipment for all applications, sees this sponsorship as an opportunity to contribute its industry-leading products to an uplifting national project.

“The Capitol Holiday Tree is a wonderful symbol of a festive, joyous time for our nation,” said David Zerfoss, president of Husqvarna. “We are pleased to continue our involvement in this outstanding program.”
