John Turner has climbed the corporate ladder – now he’s getting help from Husqvarna to climb something infinitely more challenging: Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth.

John Turner is reaching new heights - on Mount Everest.

Turner, sponsored in part by Husqvarna, is a member of an expedition that left the United States on March 19 to travel to Lukla, Nepal, the starting point for the journey up Mount Everest. After an 11-day trek, Turner and his team reached base camp on April 3 and began acclimatizing to the high altitude. For the next six weeks, the team will trek up and down the mountain to establish four separate camps with food, fuel and oxygen. Once all camps are set, weather is stable and the climbers are ready, the team will climb from base camp to the summit in one day.

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world and is considered one of the most difficult to summit, looming above the Himalayas at 29,035 feet. Summiting Everest is not easy – high winds, avalanches, crevasses, extreme cold and altitude sickness can threaten climbers on a daily basis.

Turner, a corporate consultant and information technologies specialist, is an experienced climber and a veteran of many mountain ascents. In 2003, Turner climbed Mount McKinley, the highest point in North America, with sponsorship from Husqvarna.

Turner is carrying a Husqvarna banner which he intends to unfold and photograph along the way.  He has commented that when other climbers from around the world see the banner, they share their familiarity with the brand and want to talk about its products. Turner says that he’s come to appreciate the global recognition of the brand.

“We salute John’s spirit of adventure, and are glad to support his efforts,” says David Zerfoss, president of Husqvarna Professional Outdoor Products U.S.  “A successful ascent requires top performance and extreme toughness – characteristics that are shared by Husqvarna products.”
