TORONTO – Hydrogenics Corp., a designer and manufacturer of hydrogen and fuel cell systems, reported today that it has been awarded a contract by The Toro Co. to supply a HyPM fuel cell power module for integration into the company’s development work in grounds maintenance equipment. This contract is part of Toro’s ongoing strategic alternative energy research and development initiative for turf care equipment.
“We are very excited to add Toro and its application to our HyPM portfolio,” says Pierre Rivard, president and CEO of Hydrogenics, Mississauga, Ontario. “Toro is a highly respected company with a strong track record of innovation and market presence. The skilled professionals at Toro also truly understand the power, potential and environmental impact of this technology. The company’s interest in hydrogen and fuel cell technology continues to validate Hydrogenics’ early market approach that focuses on off-road and niche market applications. It also validates our significant efforts and accomplishments in HyPM cost reductions and durability improvements, as we believe that these are two of the critical elements that drive the emergence of new opportunities such as this one. More importantly, they greatly improve our chances for commercial success going forward, as we continue to secure an expanding base of early-adopting OEMs, conferring a first-mover advantage to our company and to our customers.”
