HydroPoint Unveils Sustainability 2.0 Vision

Sustainability 2.0 Educational Series to provide actionable information for companies seeking to couple strong financial benefits with meeting sustainability goals and reducing water footprint.

HydroPoint Data Systems, provider of the WeatherTRAK Smart Water Management solution, introduced Sustainability 2.0, the company’s vision for sustainability programs that deliver financial cost savings along with environmental benefits to enterprise customers, municipalities, and water districts. In conjunction, HydroPoint also unveiled its Sustainability 2.0 Educational Series to create awareness and education on how to achieve financial and environmental benefits of “2.0” practices such as Smart Water Management to reduce your water footprint.

Sustainable practices were launched with great enthusiasm, yet lacked structure, quantifiable cost savings and accountability to guarantee success. Programs fizzled when they did not gain executive sponsorship or gather user feedback, interaction and participation from employees and customers. Additionally, when bottom-line environmental and financial gains were unmeasured and unreported, companies could not provide evidence of success or failure. This lack of visibility made it harder to secure resources to support these programs, especially as they competed with other enterprise solutions deemed mission critical.

Acknowledging these shortcomings, leading companies such as Wal-Mart, Google, and eBay as well as municipalities like Newport Beach, CA, and Petaluma, Calif., to name a few, are adopting Sustainability 2.0 practices to ensure the lasting success of their green programs. Sustainability 2.0 represents the next generation of emerging sustainability programs that share a set of common characteristics – delivering significant financial benefits and accountability that previous initiatives lacked, while also meeting enterprise sustainability goals like reducing a company's water footprint.

According to a recent HydroPoint “Green Leaders” survey, 77 percent of respondents in the public and private sector said environmental issues pose an economic threat to their business. With Sustainability 2.0, companies are increasingly viewing these threats as opportunities to strategically meet sustainability goals while generating impressive financial returns. With Sustainability 2.0, companies embrace the opportunity to improve operational efficiencies, lower costs and build brand equity by “going green.”

“Our vision for Sustainability 2.0 fuses economic benefit with conservation enabling sustainability programs that produce accountability and ROI to give them long-term business and economic sustainability,” said Chris Spain, chief strategy officer for HydroPoint. “Organizations with next-generation sustainability programs have already seen substantial cost savings while delivering on the goal of efficiently managing their corporate water footprint.”

Sustainability 2.0 strategies are enabled by HydroPoint’s WeatherTRAK Smart Water Management solution. WeatherTRAK is proven to save four times more water, and thus costs, than traditional urban water conservation practices and eliminate waste by dynamically adjusting water output based on plant needs and changing local weather. Additionally, companies can redirect maintenance efforts and cost savings to other critical infrastructure projects.

Sustainability 2.0 Educational Series

In support of Sustainability 2.0, HydroPoint also launched the Sustainability 2.0 Educational Series to advance the company’s vision. The series, consisting of webcasts, tradeshows and speaking engagements promotes the realization of Sustainability 2.0, focusing strongly on reducing a company’s water footprint and related practices.

“The Sustainability 2.0 Educational Series will convey the economic and financial benefits of sustainable programs that allow companies to redirect cost savings to other critical business programs,” said Sharon Thompson, vice president of marketing. “Our overarching goal for this educational series is to enlighten companies on how to execute successful green programs.”

HydroPoint kicks off the series with a Sustainability 2.0 Web cast on Sept. 12, at 2 pm ET with AMR Research analyst, John Davies. This Web cast will highlight the Sustainability 2.0 and Smart Water Management strategy used by Coca-Cola, AIMCO and Google.
