Improved Instrumentation Panel Now Standard on all FCCC Walk-In Vans

Panel Improves Ergonomics, Reliability, Ease of Maintenance

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Furthering its commitment to developing reliable, durable and superior products, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) introduced, as standard, an enhanced instrumentation panel on all new walk-in van (WIV) chassis models. The redesigned instrumentation panel improves ergonomics, reliability and ease of maintenance. 

The full-feature gauge and informational display includes a larger messaging center display area, Allison prognostics transmission information and is completely sealed, fully protecting it from dust and water. The panel will be available on FCCC's complete line of diesel-powered MT-45 and MT-55 WIV chassis.

The larger messaging center display area enables easier reading of fault codes and maintenance notifications. Rather than relying on predetermined maintenance schedules, the incorporation of prognostics information provides the driver critical up-to-the-minute transmission maintenance information, such as oil and filter life, and advises when excessive clutch wear is detected. This enables service and maintenance personnel to potentially increase maintenance intervals while utilizing this information to easily isolate mechanical issues and reduce downtime.

The new instrumentation backlighting, available in two different versions - green or white backlighting, provides improved brightness for superior visibility during nighttime operation. The instrument panel bezel has also been redesigned to eliminate any ghosting on the windshield.

The redesigned instrumentation panel also decreased the amount of wire connections to the chassis from four to two, reducing potential connectivity issues.

FCCC now also offers an improved instrumentation panel for its hybrid-electric chassis, which includes a state-of-charge gauge for the battery as well as a vehicle performance gauge. This gauge assists the driver in maximizing the efficiency of the hybrid system operation based on acceleration and regenerative braking reports.

The redesigned instrumentation panel will be available on all FCCC WIV chassis beginning in September 2009.

Also being introduced as an option is the ability to save vehicle operation information such as trip data, engine idle time, maximum speed and average fuel economy. This information can be captured and downloaded to a remote USB memory stick to help fleet managers improve driver training and technique.  This feature will be available in late 2009.
