Lawn care professionals have one more month to enter an annual safety contest sponsored by the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA). The entry deadline is April 5.
The green industry organization and its longtime insurance partner, CNA, organize the yearly competition to encourage workplace safety among landscape professionals.
“ALCA’s safety contest has become a very meaningful facet of our company’s safety program,” explains David Frank, David J. Frank Landscape Contracting, Germantown, Wis. “It serves as a rallying point to focus our staff’s attention on the importance of safety in the workplace. We have experienced a significant reduction in the number of accidents and a corresponding decrease in our cost of insurance.”
Winners of the safety contest are recognized nationally, with potential for reduction e costly workers’ compensation claims.
Contestants may participate in three categories — fleet safety, employee safety, and combined employee and fleet safety. Also, there is a “most improved” category for companies that participated in last year’s contest. All those with no lost-time accidents or no vehicle accidents will be recognized. There is no limit on the number of awards presented.
The ALCA/CNA Safety Contest award recipients will be recognized at the ALCA Green Industry Conference, Nov. 3-6, 2004, in Charlotte, N.C.
Contest applications are available online at www.alca.org.
