Lawn care professionals from a variety of green industry associations have teamed up to address some national tree care issues.

Specifically, the group has organized an initiative to tackle the troubles of tree decline and tree death attributed to excessive amounts of soil on root systems.

Every time a tree is handled, a decision is made to determine the proper planting height – from seedling production, transplanting and harvesting to planting and maintaining. Thus, the group has collaborated to focus on two objectives:

  • Develop common terminology and definitions
  • Identify “best practices” for the industry
  • Dr. Gary Watson from the Morton Arboretum in Chicago is heading the group, which includes representatives of the American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA), International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA), Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) and American Society of Consulting Arborists (ASCA).
