Peter H. Gleick, Ph.D., will be the keynote speaker during the general session of Irrigation Show 2008 on Monday, Nov. 3, in Anaheim, Calif. The keynote address will discuss new water management and water use approaches to meet global requirements for safe drinking water, adequate sanitation, agriculture and environmental protection.
As the co-founder and president of the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment & Security, Gleick is an internationally recognized water expert. His work and research has focused on the critical connections between water and human health, the hydrologic impacts of climate change and international conflicts over water resources.
Gleick was named a MacArthur Fellow in October 2003 for his work, and was dubbed a “visionary on the environment” by the British Broadcasting Corporation in 2001. In 2006, Gleick was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. He serves on the board of numerous journals and organizations, and has written six books, several scientific journal articles and testified before the California legislature and U.S. Congress.
