Deborah M. Hamlin, a professional association executive who led the International Association of Plastics Distributors for 10 years, will be the next executive director of the Irrigation Association, the association announced.

Hamlin will relocate to Falls Church, Va., from Leawood, Kan., where she has been executive director of the plastics association since 1996. She will join the Irrigation Association staff full time on Sept. 5.
"Deborah is a well-qualified association professional and will bring many new ideas and enthusiasm to our association," says Irrigation Association President Ken Mills, who led the search to replace retiring Executive Director Tom Kimmell.
Hamlin, a graduate of State University College in Oneonta, N.Y., has a Master's Degree in business administration from Rockhurst College, Kansas, Mo.
Hamlin began her career managing state and regional trade and professional associations through an association management company in Delmar, N.Y., later becoming director of organization services for the New York State Nurses Association. She then managed certification programs and publications for several organizations for Applied Measurement Professionals Inc. before moving to the International Association of Plastics Distributors in 1996.
Hamlin was named Association Executive of the Year Award from the Kansas Society of Association Executives in 2003. She has been a member of the American Society of Association Executives since 1986, becoming a Certified Association Executive in 1994. She has been an active leader with the Kansas City Society of Association Executives since 1996.
