Irrigation Foundation Names Student Irrigation Competition Winners

Students from Brigham Young University-Idaho and Clemson University, South Carolina, took first place in the 2006 Irrigation Competitions held during the 2006 PLANET Student Career Days at Brigham Young University-Provo, Utah.

First Place winners of the three irrigation competitions were awarded all-expense-paid trips to the 27th Annual International Irrigation Show Nov. 5-7 by the Irrigation Association Education Foundation (IAEF). The Awards ceremony, held on March 26 at the Provo Tabernacle, was attended by nearly 800 students and faculty from across the country.

Scott Stephens of Orem, Utah, won the Irrigation Design Competition, by finishing first in a challenging two-hour written test, competing against 37 other finalists. Scott is a Junior majoring in Horticulture at BYU-Idaho. The event was sponsored by L.R. Nelson.

Victor Eggleston and Levi Saurey, also from BYU-Idaho, placed first in the Irrigation Assembly event, sponsored by Hunter Industries. Victor graduated in December with a BS in Horticulture and minors in Business and Spanish. He has extended his senior year to take additional courses. Levi, a sophomore at BYU-Idaho and a native of Rexburg, Utah, majors in Horticulture with an emphasis on Landscape Management. The team competed against 44 other teams for the honors.

Adam Bernshausen, a junior at Clemson University in South Carolina majoring in Horticulture, bested 39 competitors in the two-hour irrigation electrical troubleshooting event, sponsored by Ewing Irrigation Products.

Final event competitors were selected based on preliminary tests held during PLANET Student Career Days March 23-26.
