ITPF Funds Turfgrass Projects

The International Turf Producers Foundation will fund nine turf and water research projects this year, totaling $70,550 in contributions.

Bringing together resources and researchers, International Turf Producers Foundation (ITPF) will fund nine turf and water research projects with the goal of improving the turfgrass sod production industry. ITPF will contribute a total of $70,550 to the following projects:

  • Establishing Sod with Weeded Bermudagrass, University of Arkansas, Dr. Mike Richardson
  • Estimating Soil Carbon Sequestration in Turfgrass Systems from Natural Carbon Isotropic Signatures, Colorado State University, Dr. Yaling Qian
  • Documenting Water Use from Contrasting Urban Landscapes (Turf vs. Ornamentals), University of Florida, Dr. John Cisar
  • Development of Pest-resistant Turfgrasses, University of Georgia, Dr. Kristine Braman
  • Grass Biotechnology: Understanding this Powerful Science and Determining How it can Support the Global Sod Industry, University of Illinois, Dr. Henry Wilkinson
  • Resistant Turfgrasses for Improved Chinch Bug Management, University of Nebraska, Dr. Tiffany Heng-Moss
  • The Effects of Sod on Erosion Control from Urban Lawns: a Review, Ohio State University, Dr. Parwinder Grewal
  • Economic Contribution of the Sod Production Industry of the U.S. Economy, University of Florida, Dr. John Haydu
  • Potential of Ethylene Inhibitors to Prolong Sod Shelf Life, Virginia Tech, Dr. Erik Ervin
  • ITPF has funded 102 research projects, totaling $573,000, since 1977. The foundation’s primary mission is to ensure and protect the future of the turfgrass sod production industry through science and education.
