It appears the company that built the area's first wind park near Elkton, Mich., will purchase the one being built near Ubly, and a Mid-Michigan technology company may buy the electricity it produces.
Forty-six wind turbines are going up in the Ubly area, and while you can see a lot of construction going on, there's a lot going on behind the scenes as well.
Excitement is the reaction from a lot of people in the Ubly area, as they have seen seven wind turbines erected with 39 more to go.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the project actually took place nearly three years ago. Transmission line problems stalled the project.
"It took longer than I thought it would. It was longer than I expected, but this summer, everything got together," said Jim Heleski.
Jim and Emilie Heleski will have two wind turbines on their property. The company putting up the wind park is Noble Environmental Power.
But two weeks ago, landowners got the word that John Deere Wind Energy is purchasing the project, a transaction that doesn't worry the Heleskis, who will receive payments for the use of their land.
"John Deere has the wind mills up in Pigeon," Emilie Heleski said. "They did a nice job. They look nice."
There was no comment from Noble or John Deere about the sale. John Deere operates a wind park in between Pigeon and Elkton.
