Lawn maintenance crews might have to cut back on the days they can service the nation’s wealthiest town.
Town officials are considering limiting lawn care to five days a week to make their air a little quieter during the winter on the lush barrier island, where the median price of a home is $3.9 million.
Commissioners said there shouldn’t be a problem with weekday-only lawn care when a majority of the town’s residents are around because the grass grows slower during the winter months.
“Lawn maintenance is a weekly cycle,” said Commissioner Charles Falcone.
Mayor Joseph Connolly told staff to discuss the proposal with lawn maintenance companies that work on the island.
“Part of it is the blowers and those trailers that go up and down the road carrying all the lawn equipment,” Connolly said. “They are really more trouble than the lawn mowing sometimes.”
Lawn maintenance crews working on the island Wednesday declined to comment on the proposal.
The crews are already prohibited from working the island on Sundays.
