KokoBo Plantscapes Moves to New Facility

The interior/exterior landscape firm plans to spend the winter months customizing its new 17,000-square-foot facility.

HAMPSTEAD, N.Y. – KokoBo Plantscapes is settling into a new facility that will let it better serve its clients.

The award-winning New York interior and exterior landscape firm recently moved into a new facility in Hampstead, N.Y. that affords about 1,000 square feet for each of it’s employees. The new 17,000-square-foot facility is outfitted with a greenhouse, nursery, showroom, warehouse, work/prep area, floral workshop and supply yard.

Michael Madarash, president of KokoBo Plantscapes says he’s pleased with the move and looks forward to getting everyone settled in soon. “We’re all moved in and it’s a little hectic right now – things aren’t moving completely smooth yet, but they will be soon,” Madarash told Interior Landscape Business. “Over the winter months, when our exterior work slows down, we’re going to be completely rebuilding the facility to customize it so it exactly fits our needs.”

As it is, the new facility is already serving the company better than its previous 3,400-square foot property. Madarash says the previous facility’s limited storage space required the team to move crates of interior decorations to get to the ones they needed, and cost the team hours of extra work every day. Moreover, the new greenhouse space gives horticulture crews another option for managing plant materials. “Before, we didn’t have a greenhouse area, so all of our plant material either had to be picked up on the way to a job site or direct-shipped to the site,” Madarash says. “Now, not only do we have that, but we also have great work areas, a garage for all the vehicles and a lot of other amenities that will really be beneficial to the way we serve our clients.”

KokoBo’s 17-member staff includes landscape architects, masons, carpenters, and horticulture and maintenance specialists, as well as an office staff. “The best part so far is having the extra space so our staff can spread out – the landscape architects don’t have to work in the same room as the bookkeeper now,” Madarash jokes.

The company’s facility will continue to grow as KokoBo has plans to introduce a 10,000-square-foot retail garden center in the spring of 2006.
