HERNDON, Va. - Chris Kujawa, CCLP (Chartered Certified Landscape Professional), of Kujawa Enterprises Inc. (KEI), a Cudahy, Wis.-based landscape contracting firm, has been named one of Milwaukee’s “40 Under 40” by the Business Journal of Milwaukee. The distinction honors the area’s young business people that have made a difference in the greater Milwaukee area community.
According to Cathy Jakicic, associate editor of the Business Journal of Milwaukee, about 150 nominations for the distinction were received. She said that the 40 people chosen represent a broad spectrum of business specialties. Jakicic described the winners as people who are “making their marks in their industries and in the community. They are the potential leaders of today and tomorrow.” The journal will feature this year’s winners in its December issue, as well as at a celebration reception on Dec. 4, 2000.
Kujawa’s work in the community includes the urban renewal project of Milwaukee’s Downtown Management district. “This is a classic example of a public/private partnership,” said Kujawa about the work to beautify the city’s downtown area. The use of landscape was an integral part of the project, and KEI continues to be involved in its maintenance. Kujawa touted the use of non-traditional plants and colors as helping to achieve the “overall feel of what a downtown should be.”
Kujawa serves on the Associated Landscape Contractors of America Exterior Landscape Council as well as the board of directors of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).
Kujawa said he was honored to be included in this group of the city’s “visionary people,” and he shared the honor with the staff of KEI. “I think winning the award is terrific, but it’s really a testament to all the people here that consistently do their jobs so well. That allows me the time to do what I do. It’s an award for all of us,” he said.
